This year we are asking you to dig deep and make your scholarship essay personal. A citizen comes in many shapes and sizes. Some serve their community by voting and participating in political events. Others serve through entrepreneurship or philanthropy. We want to know what you think makes a good citizen in your community. We encourage you to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples (including current events), and well-researched facts into what you write. A good essay will demonstrate how citizenship is not an abstract idea, but is, in fact, action inspired by constitutional principles. We can’t wait to see what citizenship looks like in your community! From Monday, September 17, 2018 through Thursday, February 14, 2019 (the “Contest Period”), the Bill of Rights Institute will conduct an essay contest focusing on the principles of the Constitution and their relevance today (the “Contest”). To enter, eligible students (see Section II for eligibility requirements) must log on to the essay website and submit an entry that follows the Submission Guidelines as detailed in Section III. We will not accept or consider entries that are mailed-in. Each submission must adhere to the topics and should fully answer the question and all sub-parts. Each submission must adhere to the word limits for each question (between 500 and 800 words), and must be submitted by 11:59 pm PT on February 14. Only online submissions will be accepted for the contest. Only one essay per student will be accepted. Cash prizes for Students in the We The Students Scholarship Essay Contest National Grand Prize – $5,000 (plus a scholarship to Constitutional Academy) Runners Up – Six at $1,250 each Honorable Mention – Eight at $500 each Prizes will be awarded within three (3) month For more information and to submit the essay, click here.
