Scholarship Requirements
1) High School Senior (graduating) 2) CA resident 3) Financial need 4) Academics (2.6 GPA and above) 5) Employment: Paid or unpaid Community Service Extracurricular Activities Please note that we encourage students to apply that have extraordinary circumstances in their lives as well as students who may not have the chance to attend college without financial assistance. We are looking for students that understand and exemplify the meaning of "hard work". High school seniors chosen as recipients of the Splawn Scholarship have a chance to renew the scholarship once yearly while they are in college. Renewals take place in the Fall of every year. Scholarship Application 1) Online application (entire application must be completed) 2) Current year transcript 3) Current (2020) Letter of recommendation (may be from counselor, teacher, employer, etc.) 4) 1-2 page essay on a selected topic 5) Current year FAFSA Summary Report (for 2020 - 2021 academic school year) 6) Typical Weekly Schedule The Splawn Scholarship requires that all the documents be scanned and uploaded directly to the website. The Siskiyou Bowmen Archery Club has instituted a second scholarship in memory of Ryan D. Campbell, a previous club member and also a family member. Ryan was an outstanding young man with incredible character. He counseled many of our communities youth as well as having been an exceptional role model for adults. The club will be offering a $500.00 scholarship in his name to a graduating senior who will be attending college or vocational school for the upcoming year. Qualifications: The applicant must: 1. Be pursuing a career in the community/civil services industry (teaching, counseling, youth programs, ets.) 2. Be a graduating Siskiyou County high senior 3. Preference will be given to those students who have actively participated in their community, extra curricular activities, all the while maintaining their GPS. Soroptimist International of Yreka is accepting applications from young women ages 14-17 engaged in volunteer activity within their communities or schools for the Violet Richardson Award. The award winner will receive $250.00 and Soroptimist will donate $250.00 to her volunteer organization. The Violet Richardson Award is given to young women whose volunteer activities make the community and world a better place. The award is in honor of the first president of Soroptimist International, Violet Richardson, a woman of action, whose indomitable spirit and sense of personal responsibility were demonstrated by her lifelong commitment to volunteering in her community. All awards are given for activities conducted on a volunteer basis. Volunteer projects can include, but are not limited to, projects that address social problems such as homelessness, violence, drug abuse, unemployment, illiteracy, discrimination or pollution. Projects may assist any group including the elderly, the disabled and mentally or emotionally challenged. Projects that benefit women or girls are especially valued. Topics can include, but are not limited to, mentoring, sexual harassment, teen parenting, and educational opportunities. This award is based solely on the applicant’s volunteer work. It is an opportunity to honor a girl currently engaged in volunteer work. Soroptimist prior winners are not eligible to apply for the award again.
