$1000 or (2) $500 Scholarships This educational award is primarily for the student who wants to go to a trade or vocational school and who does not have the high grades to qualify for many scholarships. Applicants must have lived in Scott Valley for the past five years. For more information, download the file below. Applications are due to Mrs. Hilton by May 4th.
A number of scholarships ranging in amounts from $250 to $3000 may be awarded to high school seniors attending school within the Sierra-Cascade Region, who plan to continue their academic studies at the College level in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Industrial Technology (welding, diesel mechanics...), or a related field. Preference will be given to students who have been active members of FFA – as well as participants in the Forestry Challenge Program. To be eligible for scholarships applicants must have demonstrated an excellent work ethic, commitment and leadership abilities while maintaining a 2.0 GPA or higher. Soroptimist International of Yreka has two $1,000.00 scholarships available to a vocational and academic student. Qualifications: -Applicant must be a senior at Butte Valley, Etna, Happy Camp or Yreka high school and be planning to continue his/her education in the Fall term following graudation. -Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for the Vocational scholarship and a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the Academic scholarship. * Application can be submitted via email or USPS. CALIFORNIA-HAWAII ELKS ASSOCIATION Vocational Grant Program WHO MAY APPLY: Any prospective student (male or female), residing within the jurisdiction of the California- Hawaii Elks Association (CHEA), who plans to pursue an eligible vocational/technical course may file an application. All applicants must be citizens of the United States of America on the date the application is filed. WHAT PROGRAMS ARE ELIGIBLE? An eligible program shall be defined as a two-year or less vocational/technical program, culminating in an associate degree, diploma, certificate, or other evidence of completion. The student must attend school full time (a minimum of 12 semester credit hours). A course must be a minimum of sixty (60) days of continuous full time study. The school must be in the United States and have received accreditation within the industry by either the federal Department of Education or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). WHERE TO FILE: This application must be filed with the Lodge Scholarship Chairman or Exalted Ruler or Secretary of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge having jurisdiction in the area in which the student has legal residence. To find the right Lodge, go to www.elks.org and put your zip code in “Lodge Locator”. Only one application may be filed. Students eligible for the optional Second Year Award will be notified by letter with instructions on how, when and where to file. HOW DOES THIS GRANT WORK? The amount of the grant will range from $500 to $2,000 depending on the cost of the course and student’s financial need. Each grant is for one year with an option to renew for one more year. WHEN TO APPLY: Submit your application 3 to 6 months before your course begins. Justification must be provided for applications submitted more than six months prior to school start date.
