The Redding Bank of Commerce Kenneth R. Gifford, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program awards ten, $1,000.00 scholarships each year.
One of the most pressing needs in higher education today is funding for scholarships. Scholarships allow deserving students to attain their educational goals, meet their professional objectives and succeed to their fullest ability. From our beginning in 1982, we have given back and participated in the communities that we serve. From education to volunteer time and donations, we actively work hard to make our communities a better place to live. Bank of Commerce recognizes that our continued success is contingent upon the health and vitality of the communities we serve. Taking action to improve the well-being of others is a community responsibility and commitment we’ve upheld since our inception in 1982. We value the opportunity to provide financial support to the youth in our communities. Eligibility Criteria:

Ford (1908-1997), a founder of The Ford Family Foundation, to assist students who otherwise would find it impossible, or at least very difficult, to obtain a college degree without financial assistance. Mr. Ford established the Foundation to help a number of worthy causes, but the Ford Scholars Program was always one of his favorite projects. Each year, up to 120 students from Oregon and Siskiyou County, Calif., are selected. The scholarship award is not a set amount, but is calculated to cover 90% ($1,000 minimum/$25,000 maximum per academic year) of each student’s college costs that are not covered by other resources (such as grants and scholarships), and his or her Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The scholarship can be renewed annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. Applicants must be residents of Oregon or Siskiyou County, Calif., who are 1) graduating high school senior or high school graduate (or the equivalent) and have never enrolled full time in a 2- or 4-year college; or 2) a community college student ready to transfer as a junior to a 4-year college in the fall. This year we are asking you to dig deep and make your scholarship essay personal. A citizen comes in many shapes and sizes. Some serve their community by voting and participating in political events. Others serve through entrepreneurship or philanthropy. We want to know what you think makes a good citizen in your community. We encourage you to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples (including current events), and well-researched facts into what you write. A good essay will demonstrate how citizenship is not an abstract idea, but is, in fact, action inspired by constitutional principles. We can’t wait to see what citizenship looks like in your community! From Monday, September 17, 2018 through Thursday, February 14, 2019 (the “Contest Period”), the Bill of Rights Institute will conduct an essay contest focusing on the principles of the Constitution and their relevance today (the “Contest”).
